It's not the "cool look at that" thing for me, it just that I'm mechanically inept with few tools and NO workshop/garage, and anything that I can do to make regular maintenance 'tard simple and quick is a good thing...

part of the reason may be that the original housing looks waay cooler. i mean, what's cooler, big ass bolt stikin out and aluminum cooling fins, or a tin can covered with Fram (or whatever) logos. I know what I'd rather! That's just the look though... haven't gotten to do the oil change yet. Maybe if I struggle with original system, I'll change my tune!

Once you struggle with it and get the cover off, you'll tighten it properly when you're done and you'll neve have problems again anyway---_

The original purpose (as I understand it) for the spin-on adapter was to let us have access to the better filtering media that have come out since the 80's. Recently cartridge filters have become avaliable with the better filtering media, so the conversion might not be needed (but it sure does make getting a filter while on a long road trip much easier).

all this talk about oil filters reminds me of the old toilet paper oil filters people would put on their cars. yep, you read that right, "toilet paper oil filter". the aftermarket ad on was a canister designed to accept a full roll of toilet paper as the filter element.

Now THAT'S FtUP! Who the hell would trust that? Do you want to use a paper that is made to disintegrate when wet in your oil flow? Crazy!

Well, while I don't have a problem with poor spelling/grammar on Forums, it really POs me when it's in ad copy... and that webpage is lousy with it.

So I'm not all that convinced. I vote "Hype"....

i saw a guy one time selling a contraption that used T.P. rolls for a filter. The idea was to put dirty oil in one side and pump a handle a few hundred times and clean oil came out the other side.
i watched him the whole time and it looked like it worked, the oil did come out clean. Then he sold a additive that was to put back anything that was broken down or missing from the old oil.
the guy's probably a millionaire today but he has none of my money

    Same guy/company.

From a purely Fluid Dynamics standpoint, I question the amount of pressure necessary to flow Oil through a roll of TP. My guess is is that it actually just saturates the TP then blows past the bypass in vehicle mounted versions...

The filters work, but there has been better avalible for some time. Popular Mechanics tested a TP filter in the late 50's (I might still have the issue in my Father's collection, but I doubt it) and found them to be well suited for older vehicles that did not have oil filters, or vehicles which only had gauze filters in the sump. keep in mind that the TP of the time was not the carresingly soft stuff we have now.

True. Maybe that's why they sell their own version of Soviet TP to put in can?
