So my exhaust Studs have been broken/missing/jb-welded since I bought my 81 xj650 years ago. One or two of my exhaust flanges is attached with heavy duty banding wire drilled through cooling fin.

I have been looking on eBay for a bit and found this cylinder head for replacement. I've done car heads/valve rebuilds. What do you think? I know I need a special c-clamp valve tool and should replace guides. Can I re-use my valves? Or should I buy all brand new? I don't have setup to cut valves n such. What items should I need while in there, guessing head gaskets, cover gaskets, etc. Need some input, please.

Here's eBay listing. How do I know head is a match too?

I personally would reuse the valves as long as the spec out properly.

While your at it, might as well check on the cost to have hardened valve seats installed.

Then have the valves ground with a 3 or 5 angle profile. Then lap them to their seats.

For the gaskets. You will need a head gasket k8t. It should have everything you need to install your refreshed head.

The bike came with hardened valve seats from the factory.

So I might be able to get away with cleaning up replacement and swap my guts and lap? Of course I would check for straightness of head surface.

Now that I think of it I should hone and ring cylinders? All this talk is turning into an engine rebuild.

    Thanks for input
