Stuttering Starter?

    My 1981 XJ550 is having trouble starting. When i press the starter button sometimes it doesn't try to start. If i hold the button down eventually it starts to fire and starts right up. It starts great when the starter is working so i don't think it's an engine or fuel problem. Any ideas?

    Loose connection? Check the ground maybe?...

    Dirty contact on the starter button? Dirty side stand switch that is slow to return?
