when i answer a post, that post is gone off of "new posts" the only way to see it again or to make another comment is to log off and back on.

I haven't had that problem. Are you set to stay logged in?

Once you've viewed it, it is no longer a "new post". The new ones have a little blue indicator in the right hand margin that leaves once you've viewed them. Do you leave the thread when you hit "Post Reply"? Just tested it, and when I do, I'm still here.

I thouht on this for a bit. I always open posts in a new window, which is probably why I haven't had that problem.

"New Posts" doesn't refer to their age. It means ones you haven't read yet. When you post something it is considered read by you.

Everything's new only once. You might want to go into your personal settings and see if you need to change anything there, too......

if you hover your cursor over your forum name in the top right, you will get a pop down list. in that list on the right, about half way down is "your content", click on that and you will find your last post at the top of the list.

Clever, FU! I will be using that going forward. I know that once you visit all the new posts, there is a link to "recent posts", which shows what everyone has posted in reverse chronological order, but I can't find it when I haven't visited them all.
