Picked this bike up for a few hundred bucks. Thought it would be a fun project.
100% stock when I picked it up. I had absolutley no idea what I was getting myself into when I got this. I think I've spent about $100 so far. I am mainly using my granpas 1971 BSA for parts. I welded a custom hardtail. I borrowed my dads welding stuff and quickly got to work. I gotta say, I am pretty proud of myself.

I'll be posting pictures as I keep working on it.

    Thanks guys!

Yep! I was out riding around for awhile then I needed to take it apart again to start working on the frame, but now I'm having issues with the wiring. I think I got it figured out though! This was a winter project that I was way to excited for and I started a tad early lol.

    Quick update
this is how she is sitting now. Just about finished up the hardtail.
The tank is off a 71 BSA and it's having a hard time fitting around the bottom where the frame splits off in to two. My BSA just has one. Might have to cut and weld to make it fit perfect.
Got the Rabbit ear bars off the same BSA.

waiting for a few parts in the mail so I can keep working!

I like it! Ive never ridden a hardtail though. The bars and tank give it great lines.

Not a ton has been done as I have been working non stop. Still having a few issues with the electrical stuff so I gotta take it all apart and go through it very carefully. Its getting chilly up here in Minnesota and I am starting to winter proof my garage so I can work out there all winter. I have my 71 BSA I am rebuilding as you can see sleeping behind the Maxim.

This is my other 82 xj750 maxim. Picked this up out a barn earlier this spring as my first bike and followed all the DIY threads on here and had it running 100% perfect in about 2 weeks.

That's my winter project! My grandpa got it from Nevada in the 70's rode it here to Minnesota, then when I was about 5 my dad brought it to our garage and I use to sit on it when he would work on it, and now I am 23 and he ask me "Why havent you taken the Beezer yet?" and that day I brought it to my house and started getting ready to rebuild it. Hoping I can keep it around to give to my kid someday.

    few Updates.

So over the winter I was going to start my search for a BSA or Triumph Engine, but I was having zero luck. So I started to think about using as much as possible for the X. So far so good! I have my good buddy helping me weld up and fab part for me, and I am having a relative that has worked at Harley Davidson for 10+ years and countless other Custom motorcycle shops lend me a hand. He has had his fair share of Japaneses chops so I know I am in good hands.

Here are a few pictures with my progress, Not a ton as it has been -30 up here in Minnesota. I also have had tons of help from a few members on here. Thank you so much!

Quick Mock up of the front end that will be on going on the XJ

Got my new Rabbit Ear Bars in the mail yesterday from Spoke Easy Customs

I will post more after I get some stuff welded this weekend.

Yea, I am a little bummed. I will continue to search around for parts and stuff. It sat in my grandpas shed for years and years and before that some kids tried to take it and start to chop it up. He got it back, but it was so bad that he just threw the parts in the shed. I didnt want to see the bike just rot away and now that I am 24, I am trying to bring it back to life. even if it means using as much as possible to build a custom bike, I know my grandpa will be happy to see me pull up on this thing.

Me too! Funny thing is, this wasnt my plan in the begining. I have 2 xj750's that I was planning on chopping, but After endless nights of searching for parts for the Beezer, I was always coming up empty handed. So I decided to start on a custom build!

    Few updates.
Finally got the front end done. Now I am waiting for a fake oil tank to house all the electronics, and in a few weeks, a member on here that lives 15 minutes down the road is going to help get the batery box welded and the fender in place! Then after that, the seat will be mounted and I will start throwing the engine back together. The weather up here in Minnesota is really starting to get me in the mood to get this thing finished!

Here is a few pictures of the progress.

Too bad about the BSA. Cool job though. There is just something about 70's chops that are undeniably cool.

I will continue to search for parts over time, but I am going to use as much of the BSA as I can to build the XJ. When the time comes, I will throw the BSA back together! Its been in the family since the 70's and I intend to keep it going.

Thanks man! I'm getting excited! At this point, the only thing "XJ" about it, is the engine, everything else is from the BSA or Harley. The headlight is a 1969 Plymouth High Beam. I am pretty happy it works haha. Now only if it was chain driven, because I have the whole back end of the BSA. I am going to continue my rebuild of the BSA engine so I can use it all soon!

    Small update:

Got the wiring harness finished up with a ignition switch from Lowbrow Customs. Got a new Axle for the front wheel. I also picked up a 21" front spoke wheel and sweet sissy bar from a guy down the road. This weekend I am having a friend help weld a few tabs for the fender, sissy bar, and fake oil tank that will house all the electrical junk. I have really been tossing around the Idea to throw a XS650 engine in because I can't stop thinking about a kick start. I had a 70's cb650 kick start that was so much fun. Overall I am very happy with how this thing is turning out. Few days ago I made a stop at the motorcycle graveyard about 20 min south of my house. This place is unreal, but very overwhelming. Over 10 acres and 7000 old bikes and over a dozen trailers full of seats, tanks and just about anything you can think of for all sorts of bike. I left with 2 vintage king and queen chopper seats for a whopping $30. I will update again once I drop the engine back in.

A kick-start would definitely fit in your design with all the BSA parts and vintage chopper stuff. Old skool all the way on this one! Is that springer front end off the BSA old stuff too? I've always wanted to see one of those Sugar Bear jobbies!

Made a trip to the Motorcycle Graveyard again! Pick up a 60's BSA tank and another seat for $15

Thought I'd mess around with some paint while I wait for a few parts to come in the mail.

So after a LONG winter, I have the Deathtrap back together. Donor parts from a Harley, xs650, xj750, and of course mostly the 1971 BSA lightning,
everything is finally coming together. I can not thank you guys enough for the help on here. Maybe it was advice, actual physical help with welding or just having a few beers and talking about bikes, you guys have been a huge help. I am far from done, but I got her to start up with some quick wiring, but now I will be making a minimal wire harness this week. This thing doesn't even look like an XJ anymore. The only parts left from the XJ is the engine, drive shaft, and rear wheel. I finally found some parts from a 650 BSA engine that will complete the build, but for now I will be rocking the XJ engine to scoot around on while I continue my build. Here are a few before and after pictures. I just picked up this trailer fender for a few bucks so I will be swapping out the Harley fender and throwing that on. This bike has been across country twice, buried in the desert and torn apart. Now its my turn to write the next chapter of the "Beezer".

Very, very cool, man! Look like she turned out pretty nice.

I'm just wondering if you have enough bracing under the back of that seat to support another rider? Looks like it could use a couple of supports coming up from the back angle of the frame there.

I put that trailer fender on just for the pictures, but I mounted support bars and the bottom of seat on the top part has a bolt that will go through the fender. I also didn't have my sissy bar either. She is nice and snug ;]
