For anyone that has replaced the stock air cleaner for the large single to four individual cone filters; have you seen any gain to this? Sound better? Noticeable performance gain? Any negative effects?

    Thank you

I haven't and i won't because xj series bikes have constant velocity carbs (the air boots are specifically designed to deliver the necessary air flow through each carb) which make tuning with pod filters difficult. There are threads about this. I'm not saying it's impossible, just very difficult.

Louder intake noise, futzing around with jetting for weeks, and in the end you get slightly worse performance than stock. GO for it.

Bikes were designed to run with the airbox, you'll probably end up chasing negligible performance gains with a lot of hassle. As a rule I return my bikes to standard airbox and most of the time notice an improvement in performance.
