Before I put money down on that, I just want to make sure thats what Im actually looking for.

Also, I saw that Haynes manuals came highly recomended by some people, is there a general consensus on the quality of those manuals?

    Thanks for the help guys.

    *edit*

I guess the year model would help. Im after a manual for the 83 Maxim, which is what the manual on Amazon would cover.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I went ahead and ordered a haynes manual. I figure that will get me deep enough for the time being.

I have these two in Adobe form, free if you want 'em -- send a pm w/your email

someone here sent 'em to me free -- pass 'em along

p.s. I believe the G is the European version but I'v been using it extensively for my 650H and i can't find any discrepancy (to date) -- I also have the Haynes, and I've gotten into the habbit of reading both and cross checking the Haynes which is more verbose and has more pictures

What the "G" means is that it's a 1980 model year. G='80, H='81, J='82, K='83. The added "R" means "Seca" and an added "L" designates either the turbo or Midnight versions, depending on year.

The 650 "G" and "H" models (80 and 81) were the same, with the pre-YICS motor.

That "G" book is the "base" manual, from which all other 650 manuals derive. I have a 650RJ ('82 Seca) manual, which consists of the base "G" book plus the appropriate supplement for the 650RJ. The books for the 650J and K are just the base "G" book plus the appropriate supplements.

I'm not sure about the genesis of the 750 books.

Some one emailed me and asked again for the manual that I have - 1981 XJ650 and the 1981 XJ750RH Supplement - there are two manuals in this single file and since the file is over 100MB I pay a small fee to pust this up and it stays out there for 20 days

So here are the manuals for free for twenty days from the date os this post

I have downloaded the xj650g manual but cannot find instruction or photos on how to lift or remove the seat on my 1982 XJ650RJ SECA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Insert key in lock (in LH sidecover) and turn toward the rear (clockwise.)

Under the frame rail, a couple inches to the rear of the lock, is a flat tab hanging down. This is the latch release. Push it (rearward, IIRC) while the key is turned, to release the left side of the seat. The seat is hinged on the right, and should pivot up.

Note: if there are hinges on a stock seat it's a Seca. The latch is on the right side of a Maxim and the seat is not hindged.

Thanks - got it - but this is the 650G - 1980. Do you have a "H" version? What changed between 1980 and 81?

Been there - it's a scam - it's just a pdf with another link to a site that sells the manual.

I have had success there with the haynes for 650-750 from 80-84. Never was able to find the Yamaha one, though. I'll give it a shot...

Nope. just a second pdf of the seca supplimental manual. Where the heck is a genuine Yamaha manual?
