Is it necessary to pull engine to do rings and hone? If so what gaskets are necessary other than lower cylinder and top end? Any other items need replacing? if I chose to do rings and hone and have to pull engine is it just. As well to do full engine rebuild/check? do the cranks on 81 xj650 need much service And is it similar to automotive journal bearing size change

I'm guessing it's ideal to pull engine to do rings and hone?

how are you going to pull the jugs of if it is in the bike?
it would make your life a lot easier to remove the engine from frame

Just never done any motorcycle work but plenty of automotive work. Just wary taking things apart on a 30+ year old bike that might need to be replaced that isn't available any more? Bike runs good, I want it to run excellent. I'm not scared at taking anything apart, I can fix just about anything.

I'm just curious at any other gaskets or such at final drive or anywhere else might need. It's not like I can go to local part stores and pull off shelf. I want as much as I can right there when time is right instead of running into speed bumps. Trying to do a quick turn around so I can be back on the road.

    Thanks.

The usual way. The whole top end can be torn down in situ.
