I am having trouble starting my 85 700 maxim x, and I think the idle is too low. It currently (sitting) idles at about 300-400 rpms. what should it be at? How do I adjust that?

about 1200rpm should be what you want for a XJ700 idle.

There should be a thumb screw at the bottom behind the carbs (between the carbs and airbox). Just reach in there and turn it clockwise to increase the idle.

If you got it to idle at 300-400 RPM I want you to do my carbs!

I believe 1050 is the correct number.

    400 isn't Idling.
    It's LUGGING ...

Get the RPM's UP ... Lugging ain't good for Big-Ends, Wrist Pins, Main Bearings and OIL PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    900 -to- 1050 rpm's

It barely runs at that RPM, and it sure makes starting a bugger! I will try to adjust it tonight
