Hey guys! Has anyone had any luck using engine degreaser (Gunk, etc..) on your XJ's? I have a lot of oil/grease on the front lower half of the engine id like to clean up with some degreaser and elbow grease. I don't want to do It though if its going to discolor or ruin the coat on the engine. Or maybe there is something better I can use? Any input is appreciated!

    Thanks!

I have been happy using Foamy Engine Brite to clean up three engines last three winters. Takes two or three rounds and some elbow grease, though the majority just washed away on the first round. Recommend buying at least two cans and a cheap set of various shaped nylon brushes. Don't pressure wash. I'm sure there are other options, but I was impressed with this stuff.

Gunk will take most of it off and not hurt paint. Then if you don't mind some scrubbing, Go-Jo type waterless hand cleaner and a brush works good and won't hurt paint and smells good too.

I just used the engine cleaner setting at the self-wash down the street. Worked well enough for me. Also, their drains are meant to handle car wash run-off, so you're not polluting the groundwater.
