So I finally got the bike running today. Runs like a champ, however, after I fueled up with 93 octane I have a vibration coming from the front end. No noise with it. Would that be the fuel causing this or do XJ's "vibrate"? The bike doesn't shake at all. It just feels "rough"...

What sort of vibration and at what RPM?
There should be some high frequency vibration from the engine, but nothing offensive.
Did you perform a running synch on the carbs? Cylinders that aren't balanced will cause more vibration.

Around 2000 RPM. It's more of a rough feeling, it's when the clutch is engaged. Almost feels like a tire rubbing. It started after I fueled up but maybe it's just me...

By engaged, do you mean that you are holding the clutch lever to the bar, or that you are not holding the clutch lever at all? I ask because many people confuse what engaged actually means when discussing clutches.

It could be a clutch adjustment issue, or clutch instillation issue. Describe to me what has been done to this machine to get it in running condition (or link that thread if there is one).

Also; did you perform a running synch on the carbs?

Yea running sync was done. By engaged I mean the lever is not pulled. All that's been done is carbs cleaned/synced and new plugs. Valves in spec. doesn't do it at high rpm. I can feel it when I hit bumps in the road too? It's weird. Best way to describe it is when we were younger and would put pop cans in our back tires, that rubbing feeling...

There are several things that it could be. Check the wheel bearings, and all of the rotating components at the front wheel. How are the headstock bearings? Badly worn bearings can cause a rubbing feeling. Also check that the engine mounting bolts are all torqued to spec.

I took it out tonight to see if I could pin-point the problem. It happens in between 2000-3000 RPM and I cl can feel it when I hit bumps in the road. I can feel it when I roll off the throttle too. I took out the rear motor mounting bolt a few weeks ago to clean the rear foot peg brackets and i dont think I re torqued it. That could be the issue...

That is probability it. The rear engine mount does most of the work of keeping the engine in place.

Would you know what the torque spec is?
