Ok, I found the no one still makes or has the 36.5 pilot jet for the xj700n. I had one pilot jets hole that was larger than it was supposed to be probably twice as large. After looking for a couple of weeks I gave up and found a drill bit set that could do the job. Awsome little set. And I mean little. I removed the offending jet and soldered up the hole with silver solder. That left me with a jet that had no hole. Using the smallest drill bit.035mm and my hand drill I simply made a new hole. Reinstall and readjust the pilot mixture screw to the same as the other threee carbs. Now If I can find my colortune I can really adjust the carbs and make her scream. I will check the color on the plug in a couple of days and make sure all is well. Until then It is time to have fun again. Time to ride.

That sounds like it should work alright. Good thinking.

After riding a little last night and this morning. I pulled the plug and it finally looks almost identicle to the other three. Score one for the good guys. More power and better response also. I guess I just posted this here to let other people know it is possible.

which type of solder was used?
high heat or low heat? such as regular tin low heat or high heat as silver solder?
xj750r seca (canadian) had badly clogged pilots and cleaned with torch tip cleaner. now over sized. no Hitachi #43 pilot jets available up here.

Looked at Jets R Us and they have $30 shipping to canada. plus price of jets. also did not want to accept my paypal.
This looks like a quicker way to get back up and running. a drill bit is also the price of a jet.
i am assuming tin solder was used. silver solder would be harder to drill through. possibly braking drill bit?

xj4ever does have everything and a lot of info. But how do you compare a $43 set to a $3.00 drill bit?
    also +shipping, +tracking and +insurance.
The jets are already shot. so you can't damage them anymore.

Jets R us have a good price $4.00 each would buy if was located state side.

Jets set in block making easier to drill the small hole. Going to friends house another day.
note you will need a drill/press with a chuck that can go down to zero. Cause the drill bit is like a
    wire.

if your looking for a drill bit the size of your jet hunt down a machinist tool shop.
most places only go down to 1/16"

well.. if you want to go to all that trouble.....tin solder, solder them shut, buy a drill bit, and re-drill them to your pilot or main jet sizes......& hope that your solder job holds up.......

Good luck with all of that......hope it works for you......

Let's us know if works out.....

First I have heard anyone doing this........curious to see if it holds up.

    WOW

OP was looking for a 36.5 - that doesn't show up on the Hitachi list from Jets-R-Us.

According to OP the solder and re-drill worked. Here's to hoping it lasts for another 30 years.

I would like to hear from the original people that posted in 2007 its been ten years. Wonder how their soldered jets have held up? if they had any issues cleaning them after a couple years? or the gas was hard on the solder?

whatever size bit you use to make a hole will make a bigger hole than marked on the bit.
some bits are made under size to account for this but it doesn't always work.
no drill chuck has zero runout, some are close but not perfect. so the bit wobbles and makes a bigger hole.
if you drill a jet and the bike runs better none of this matters, just go ride :)

Zero chuck was just a name used.
They are also called pin chuck or micro drill bit chuck in some of the catalogs i looked at.
The drill bit is like a thin wire its very small. I checked all of the drills I had. Nothing would come close to hold it.
So far so good, no issues. happy with my results.
