I need to condition my leather jacket and chaps. What do you guys recommend as an inexpensive leather conditioner?

I always go over mine with saddle soap and mink oil a couple times a year.

Go to a tack shop - horse people are good with leather. ;)

I was going to say use what we used to use - Saddlesoap and neatsfoot oil... apparently times have changed! Surely a tack store would have what you're looking for... do they have horses up where you are? ;)

I've very recently been told to make sure you get real neatsfoot oil and make sure it doesn't contain any petroleum products... if it does it is bad for the leather.

Actually this very topic has come up at the other board - check this out:

Local Princess Auto happens to carry just what I needed. I had no idea they had Tack items. But I guess some farmers do have horses

EEEEWwww, how revolting! Poor blighter needs that oil a little more than I do. Oh well, I'm using it anyway. Works great on my Doc's, belts, jackets. I'd be hard pressed to replace it.

My brother and I own a shoe repair shop and we always recommend Lexol. Comes in a cleaner (orange bottle) and conditioner (brown bottle). It is available in spray bottles, too. Can be used on coats, chaps or anything made of leather. If it's not available locally you can by it online from Tandy Leather Company (www.tandyleather.com).
