strip the clear off. Then sand it with 600 then 1000 and finer and finer then use some mothers or metal polish. It is a lot of work if you do everything by hand. The wheels try mothers without sanding they should clean up pretty easy. I have the tools buffers ect which takes much less time

Firstly make sure you know the material you are polishing as there are a number of ways to get a good finish but if you polish the wrong way you end up spending a lot of time for no result. To check wash clean a small section then rub a polish on it - you should get black tarnish off it, if not this is not going to work.
With aluminium the wet and dry paper approach works well. Start with a coarse grade paper and then get progressively finer - don't worry about the scratches at first as they will disappear. Then use a polish product like autosol to finish it off. Make sure you've cleaned the dirt (not the tarnish that will come off with the sanding) first. You may notice a dull greenish gray colour - that is likely to be clear coat that has gone off. When you get good at it you can use a drill but I would suggest to start with do it by hand to get used to what happens through the process. A Dremel is also good for this sort of thing but is usually better for keeping it shiny after you've done the hard yards. I will clean everything with a cheap degreaser first then wash it before polishing. You know you are doing the right thing when you are covered in black crap from head to foot (wear old clothes!!!)

Autosol also does some rust removing stuff as well but problem with spot rust is that it's eaten through the outer protective coating so unless you replace the coat it will rust again (usually the problem on exhausts is that you get dust and dirt spots that over time absorb moisture and if you don't clean them off you'll get spot rust as the exhaust heats and cools during normal use. If you're exhausts have spot rust not a lot you can do to get rid of it except get the exhaust rechromed.

Yea I know but they could have put on side of headlight like other manufacturers did then it's gone in 5 seconds and no one knows it's missing!
And not like idiots in cars that can't see a motorcyle at the best of times !
We have a large new canadian population that never drove until they arrived and it's scary driving downtown. Between young girls talking and texting and older folks that can't or won't shoulder check you are rolling the dice every day.

Cutlass is an expert on polishing. Notice how that cover is on the kitchen table? That's cuz it's clean enough to eat off! Also, if eliersiang is looking for XJ parts, clicking on the "XJ4ever" logo on top right corner gets you everything you need. Shop is run by member Chacal. Awesome guy, knows EVERYTHING, provides great service, loves pirates! Everyone has great things to say, never heard any negatives other than that he gets all our money!

To clean out the tank you'll really need to drain it, pull it, and do some grunt work. Look on Youtube and you'll see various techniques. Personally I take off the petcock and cap, add steel shot, wrap the whole thing in towels and tape and throw it in a dryer (old one in the garage I use for strange things).

I highly suggest adding an inline fuel filter.

    Hi,

The nummer starting with 5G2 is your shorty VIN number.
Yamaha also numbered the engine with the same number when they assembled your bike.
Somewhere in the resident vendor forum is a description of short and long VIN numbers.
The other numbers are the sequence of your gearbox.

I tried to use it, as the page i watched, but at timeni put on VIN pages it said
Yeah, but the problem here it's I got or well I try to do as they said on that post, and when I puted on VIN vehicle register said isn't right, are completely wrong, I try to look other code on my bike, but I just can see that 3 codes, and not like the other bike it have the VIN on the exhaust, or frame.
What that means? I from Mexico but that bike I get from Virginia. I need to register with my name. But I don't find more codes.
    Ty bro.
P.s I don't have the original papers. (Pediment)

The post I referred to is http://www.xjbikes.com/forums/threads/tech-topic-model-id-and-vins.14577/
In this long story is says that you have a XJ750 seca build for the USA.
In it is also a procedure to convert the short number you have, to the full 17 number VIN that the register probably needs.
If I do the math (with a gamble for the model year, the 3) I get a VIN of JYA-5G200-731-007809.
Hopefully the register accepts this number.

BTW is there not decal on the steering tube?
It should contain the long number.
It also should be opposite of the numbers you photographed.
