I picked up a pretty clean 1984 CB650SC Nighthawk with a seized engine. Has a stripped oil drain bolt and po ran it on low oil. Soaked cylinders in ATF/penetrant and was able to turn it over about 20 times with a socket on the crank bolt, thought I may have lucked out. Jumped the starter and it cranked for about 2-3 seconds, then stopped. Now when I turn with a socket I get a solid stop after one revolution, forward or backward. Anybody seeing any 83-85 engines at any salvage yards. None available around Seattle at this time. Had a 81 xs650 years ago, love the tech info on this forum.

Thanks, I'm trying to find something local if I can. I have come across an engine that has less than 10k and the seller says it runs just fine but he could hear what he thought was an alternator bushing noise. I am going to pick it up and hope between the two I can put together a runner. Seller is an older gentleman who was very forthright about the engine's issue but also said other riders could not hear any problematic noise. How common is problem with alternator bushing and how big of an issue is its repair?

Have seen alt drive and cam chain problems with the 83-85 nighthawk engine and also the 750's as well. I can see what he wants for whole bike if your interested?

Thanks but I am going to pick up this engine tomorrow. Out of curiosity, how much of an issue is bringing parts across the border?

On hold for now, my wife seems to think it's more important to finish a bathroom remodel than something in then garage! I will post a follow up as soon as I get at it.

Mines been pretty patient but I always dread grouting. Don't mind setting tile but mixing, applying and cleaning grout is way down on my list. That's where I'm at right now but just need to get on it and get it done. Agree so strongly with the happy wife theory!

It was only a question... my wife convinced me NOT to sell the Seca before we moved. She's happy I'm happy!
Plus, she may read these posts...;)
