What final drive is compatable with the one that's on a 1982 xj 1100 ? Ive heard that quite a few different years are but to want to make sure before I buy another one . Is it true I can even change for the better ( better gearing ) after this mistake I made , hopefully correctable any way I got this 1100 its sweet nice paint, low miles, well taken care of , and it runs like a bear ! I will post some pics when I get some . If any one has good info for me about this bike I would be forever grateful I never had a maxim before thus the Greenhorn sn lol

An XS1100 final drive is a direct swap, from the middle gearbox through the driveshaft, swingarm and all the way to the final drive unit.
I'm led to believe that the XS750 final drive unit works with a few mods to give lower engine revs when cruising.
Can't see that really but some of the lads over on www.xs11.com swear by it.

Thanks for your info , you say the 750 final drive will work with a few mods ? how much engineering will I have to do to make it work ?

I beleive that all of the Yamaha final drives will physically fit, but you need to pay attention to the shock stud location. I'm not sure of the gear ratio differences, but as mentioned information about the XS family is more readily available at http://www.xs11.com/

Also, there are literally dozens of XS1100 final drives on e-bay right now, most for less than $40 shipped.

Yes. The XJ1100 is a revision of the XS1100. Please note that there are a lot of other parts that do not interchange between the XS and XJ families, but the XJ1100 is primarily an XS1100 drivetrian in a different frame.

Almost no swearing. It is a one-beer job. Make sure to torque the fasteners to the values specified in the service manual. You do not want the final drive coming off.
