    Ok I bought an 81 Yamaha xj650 maxim recently as a project. I'm planning on having the frame made into a hard tail soon but I was wondering if anyone has ever used a dual Springer front fork Set on one of these? Also planning on some performance modifications such as custom pipes and pods but I am very aware of the common cv carb issues using pod air filters so I was wondering if there was a common or good slide carb that works good on these bikes? This bike is a project I'm currently just planning everything so not in a hurry to finish it. I currently ride an 88 HONDA CBR 600FJ Hurricane that I attempted pod filters on cv carbs and learned my lesson and going against what everyone had told me to do. I want to build this bike into a bobber and just want the bear minimum so I want to remove the air box side covers battery box etc. Reason being I'm looking for a good set of carbs to use for this build.     Pretty much planning a bare minimum bobber build with it.

    1. Get a different bike to do it with, like a 650 Special. It'll be easier in the long run

    I'll get some pics asap new phone so I don't have any pics of it yet n the bikes at work at the moment cause I'm doing some work on it. It was wrecked when I got It so I'm doing a street fighter build and currently working on tucking the wiring harness and extending a few wires and installing new gauges, fork mount headlight brackets, side mount head light with LED turn signals built in carbon fiber mini turn signals on front n rear, a set of carbon fiber flush mounts on the rear, black and red Honda CBR grips, black round bar end mirrors, side mount license plate bracket, and replacing the fork seals and repainting the tank and plastics and fork & triple tree's, new foot pegs, new tires, yoshi exhaust, manual cam chain tensioner, NGK Iridium spark plugs, all K&N filters and royal purple fluids, steel braided fuel lines and glass fuel filter, cleaning out the tank and recoating it and a few other Sam things that need to be dealt with on it

    I got the xj for $100 and I had it running but the CDI went bad and I don't have a title for it but I figured it would be my first actual project bike so I do have a lot of plans for it and have a shop doing the hard tail for me and planning on doing a dual Springer fork Set up and spoke wheel conversion and titling it as a custom motorcycle but I'm not planning on finishing it anytime soon. I'm also on the process of building a 77 hard tail sportster at work that belongs to my boss and also have a few other bikes there that I am working on so need to get them done so I have room and time to work on my own projects

    I want to build something like this except I want to use a dual Springer front fork. My question is can I use a dual Springer from an xs650?

    Just to check for the height I DoD this but thinking about making a bolt on hard tail for it so I can always put shocks back on if I want or if I sell it n the next owner wants shocks they can be easily reinstalled. IMG_20150708_191115.jpg

    Just quickly thrown together if I make a bolt on kit I'll make sure it looks better and welds are better buy this was just to get a reference of the height I wanted

    You can use any front end that you want, but it's going to take some work. At the very least you'll be having the steering stem either machined or swapped. Neither of which is a DYI process unless you have a well equiped shop and a fair amount of experience.
