So I finally pulled the valve cover to fix the gasket so it didn't seep oil anymore. Well I found out why. One of the outside bolts was stripped. What size bolt is this, and can I install a heli-coil to fix the threads in the head? I will definitely need to know the size of those bolts (size and pitch) so I get the correct heli-coil.

If you have a better idea of how to fix it without changing the head feel free to suggest it.

    Thanks.

I've used a Permatex thread repair kit for non-critical stripped threads like that before...it's a two part resin that goes in the hole, you coat the threads of the bolt with a kind of anti-sieze that comes in the kit, and run it down to the bottom of the hole (unloaded, no clamping force)..wait until it cures up, take the bolt out and re-assemble your parts...I've used it with good results in situations like yours, plus stripped carb screws, etc...

    Good luck!

That sounds pretty good. Easier than drilling and installing an insert...It just might work.

Hmmm...I'll have to look for that at Autozone.

Sometimes you can get away with just using a longer bolt.

Well Polock came over today and we eventually got a heli-coil in there correctly and got it to work. So I am back in business.

    Thanks again Polock.

We really ought to have a Convention so we can give Member's who do amazing things like Polok did and Award.

I'd prefer somewhere not actually ablaze; but SoCal would be nice, I suppose.

Will Dallas have dried out by winter?

    San Diego gets my vote.

    but it's humid.

San Diego has a beautiful sea breeze...nice and cool, and not too hot and humid.
