?

I'm looking at customizing. 8 inch apes. Springer front end would be nice.

You will have to swap the existing stem to your fork of choice. There is no bolt-on solution for what you want to do; you're about 25 years too late for that.

That sucks. Would longer forks work? I want the front to sit a little higher and the back to sit a little lower. Does humidity affect the carburetion?

Are you having issues with rideability that you think may be caused by a carb issue?

I adjusted the air mixture knob on the carbs. Was running ok then started cutting out at take off till higher rpms. I'm pretty sure it needs new jets. 4 carbs is a little scary for me.

I like the bobber look. I'm 6 foot 3 so the way the bike sits now is not very comfortable. I have 2 kids so my budget is small. Not bad for a 175 dollar bike. Two new tires and a battery and replacing some fuel line.

There is no air mixture knob (there are four seperate idle air screws next to the enrichment plungers). If you turned the knob that is between the #2 and #3 carb then you adjusted the idle speed.

You need to visit The Church of Clean, and The Secret Life of Carburetors.
Unless the bike has had modifications to the intake and exhaust it is hightly unlikely that any jets will need to be replaced.

4 carbs isn't any more difficult than working on 4 single carb bikes. In many ways it's easier.

You should also visit The Information Overload Hour (link in my signature). There is no point in customizing a machine that hasn't been recomissioned properly and made safe.

Just remember that the XJ550 Seca has 35mm forks and the XJ550 Maxim has 36mm forks. You can swap the Maxim front end onto the Seca if you use the Maxim triple tree.
