Hey all, it's been a while...I hope all has been well since my recent departure...
Long story, short...I purchased a Yamaha Venture some time back and I've been breathing new life into it, sadly it has been at the expense of my '82 XJ750 Maxim.
Decided to make some changes to the setup on the Maxim and have run into some issues. I had installed Vetter saddle bags and a sissy bar on the bike and have since taken them off (went back to O.E.), noticed that the turn signals weren't working (actually only the right turn signal wasn't). Easy enough, check for burned out bulb....nope. Turns out one of the wires is unplugged....now neither signal works (lights up but doesn't flash). I started just checking simple stuff...pulling fuses. Headlight fuse is piping hot (not blown)...here's the part that has me stumped...with the headlight fuse out, turn signals work fine????
Attached are some pix of the semi-melted fuse and wire.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You have a short to ground somewhere in the harness. Find it before you end up with an electrical fire.

dirty or loose connections can cause the melting of a connector. loose connectors will carbonize increasing the resistance which increases the heat.
is that the input side of the fuse block ?

bad connection on that , maybe on the crimp.
compare that 10A to the 30A, that looks kind of thick for a 10

    Pat,
    Good to hear from you.
    I know squat about 'lectricity.
But have discovered that checking and cleaning ground connections is a good thing.
On the XJ650 there is one under the left hand side cover (while sitting on bike) and another on the right hand side near the clutch actuator.
Found mine to be slightly corroded, but it doesn't take much to jeopardize the whole system.

    Good luck!

Thanks Paul.....BTW, if you need a sync tool, I finally bought a MotionPro. Let me know.
Can someone explain why the turn signals worked fine for two years with extensions (for the Vetter bags), but once I put them back into stock position, now the fuse/headlight issue pops up? They are not even on the same circuit? And how come with headlight fuse out....the turn signals work fine?
I'm a pretty good "parts hanger", just not much of a "diagnoser", especially where electronics are concerned.

Start looking for broken wires and worn insulation. I'll revise my prior statement to reflect that the problem is more likely a short between the headlight circuit and the turn signal circuit that causes the problem.
