The XL is ok except for road rash on the hand guard.

A jacket could have prevented this...be safe!

It was one of those turns that the road pitched down and away coming out of it and the front tire slid.. I think the newly paved road before it got oil on my tires too. Some woman saw me go down and freaked out. haha

    riding in a t-shirt? That'll do it.

Good to hear that is all the damage you had to yourself and you are ok.

Yeah, that's all that happened...couldn't keep my arm off the road. No bumps or bruises, just the rash on my arm. I was wearing just a tee shirt and really have to do something about not having my arms exposed like that. I do always wear timber boots, gloves and a full face helmet though. If I was riding a little less agressive, the whole thing could have been avoided. I'm pretty sure that long stretch of new pavement and it being very hot got oil on my tires. I'm just glad it wasn't my XJ that went down.

I have a Honda XL 600R that I run like a road bike but is a dual sport. Those tires are not meant to take corners on the pavement like our road bikes. I have a good time on it even when I went down...good ride that evening. I just love the feeling of riding a dirt bike on the road, it feels like I'm getting away with something but it's legal. Probably stems from when I had an enduro in my younger years and use to cheat getting to trails by taking it too the road sometimes and looking out for the police.

For someone who helped me out with my bike troubles I can't help but chime in on your road rash. As I spent lots of time on bicylces the last 20 years I've dealt with more than one incident of road rash. The last time cost me eight stitches to boot since I went down hard on a gravel road. Best treatment advice distilled over the years is to clean the wound with mild soap, nothing harsh like peroxide (looks like you've cleaned it well from the photo). Liberally apply antibiotic ointment with bacitracin in it and keep covered for first week or so changing dressing evey day at least once depending on drainage. There's an expensive medical covering called Tegaderm wich is very good for abrasions, burns, etc but you can get the same effect with gauze pads covered with plastic wrap according to my pharmacist. Much cheaper.
Most importantly, once you take off the bandages keep it out of the sun and apply lots of sunscreen when not wearing long sleeves. I followed this regimine after last spill and healing was very fast and scaring very minimal.
Hope this was somewhat helpful and I know that feeling of having a bike go out from under you for no apparent reason.
Heal fast, ride fast , .....and safely. :^)
