    long time no see everyone.

so I was forced to repair my maxim fuel tank, since the po used a slide hammer dent puller on it and made five holes. I used a tank patch and then por15 fuel tank liner. after that there was many coats of primer and wet sanding. then a base layer of black epoxy paint and a cool flame design, followed by a spray max 2k clear coat.

I decided to make the side covers match since I was doing the paint. the inset panels were removed from the aluminum frames and then there was more primer and wet sanding. the aluminum frames got paint stripper to remove the po finish, then wet sanded with 2,000 grit and polished. they will eventually get more polishing and powder coated clear.

the first pic is what it looked like in 2013 when I bought it. the second pic was taken last week.

Good looking bike. Job well done. Is that a 550 Seca in the background?

She's looking good, Bruce! I like the subtle changes like the taillight/plate holder and tiny signals too.

As his signature indicates, FtUP does have an xj550rj, but IIRC, he put diversion rims on there...

jayrodoh; thanks, it really makes a big difference in the overall look of the bike. the mufflers are aftermarket and look like jardines but they don't say jardine on them like another set of muffs I have from a 550 I bought. you could probably find a set somewhere.

lostboy; thanks and yes what's left of one.

    len; thanks

polok; thanks, I worked very hard at making them look just right.

matti; your powers of observation are quite astute. the rear fender is off a '82 650 maxim. it wasn't a direct bolt on, but it looks like it belongs and I like the look better than the original. I am happy with the overall look of the led turn signals, but I want some that are more bright than these.

the bike is a work in progress, today I discovered that #1 head pipe has a cracked inner pipe.

I haven't done the wheel swap yet, but it is in the works. the 550 in the background is what's left of a parts bike I bought.

earmachine; there are lots of tutorial vids on the tube of u.

rooster; thanks I miss the forum, but I have trouble just navigating to make a post, so being an active member is out of the question. I can log out and have no trouble surfing the forum, but even that is limited and I cannot reply to threads. it was a struggle just creating this thread, but I wanted to share my success with peeps who would appreciate it.

thanks to everyone who has shown appreciation to my hard work. it means a lot to me.

I don't understand why you would be having problems using the forum. Do you have the same difficulties on ADVRider. They just upgraded to the same software last week. Maybe there is some commonality that we can use to diagnose the issue.

If it's a computer issue it could be that the browser itself you're using isn't uo to date?

He's been having difficulties ever since we went to "Premium Member" a few months back. Anybody else having troubles with the site? If so, PM SnoSherrif... he can't fix it if he doesn't know it's busted.

nope, no problem over at adv. this is only when I am logged in, (it took me ten minutes to navigate here to make this reply). if I log out I can surf the forum no problem. I believe it has something to do with my yahoo group I created for xj bike owners when it was made known that this forum was running on a shoestring and could be gone tomorrow. my access has been super limited ever since.

I am NOT a premium member and have no issues with this site.
I think it's FtUp if you, FtUp think that SnoSheriff has some how 'black-balled you' as you seem to be inferring. . . . .

I've been on this forum for a long while. That sort of action would be out of character for SnowSheriff.
