I just installed a used speedometer for one that was broken. The needle was broken and the short needle stub and the odometer didn't move. The trip odometer had fallen into the housing. The one I installed supposedly does work, but doesn't. It is for the same year and model as the one broken (for my 1981 550 maxim). I noticed the cable cover is worn through from rubbing on the fork, but the cable looks OK. Is there a certain way the lead is put into the housing before tightening the cable down?

There is a Squared-off section at the end of the cable that you insert into a Square receiving coupling at the Speedo ... then, you tighten the Collar to keep everything together.

Thanks RickCoMatic. I'll try to insert the cable correctly.
