So I got to wondering (yes boring day at work and mind drifts):

How many miles is alot on a bike? I have heard 50,000 is the end of the road for xj's but wanted to ask around and get everyone's take on it. My own is at around 28K. So, what is too much?

I hope not, because mine's about to roll over 50,000... I have seen craigslist ads for Hondabagos that list mileage of 100K+.

I have 54,000 miles and the bike is in great shape - just needs a few tweaks like fork seals, manifold tweak, battery. Just started vacation, so we should be on the road shortly.

54,000 is close to Timing Chain time if you haven't done it.

I have 56,000 on my 900 and it runs great. I did a Valve Job with Valve Seals and a Polishing of the Combustion Chambers not too many miles ago.

If you are religious about doing your Oil Changes inside of 3,000 Miles ... you might still be riding that bike when you Grandson asks if he can borrow it!

I concurr with Rick... changing oil often is a very small price to pay for the longevity of riding these bikes.

What wears things out in our bikes is microscopic peices of grit and dirt in the oil... and when the engine is typically turning 5K... 6K.. plus RPM its like sandpaper. Always keep clean oil and keep things lubed. The other important thing is keeping it out of the sun and weather. If ya do that the dang things should last forever.

I have 37K and still running strong, I wish Yamaha made cars, they would last one million miles.

They would cost a lot of money.

    But, probably be worth it!

22k and running strong. My Yamaha 115 outboard on my boat is 23 years old and running very strong and looks new as well. Just stay on top of the maintenance and they will run a long long time. Yamaha makes some great engines.

You'll be due for the 12,000 Mile Check-up and Service in two or three years.

Bringing it in and having the Service Book stamped!

(Which, even though the Bike is 20+ Years out of Warranty ... I'd do ... just to Bust some balls at the Dealership ... the 12K Service was usually "On the House.")

LOL!!!! That would be something. Just ride it in and ask them to perform an "on the house" service for me 25 years later!!
