Why are members so paranoia about putting their marker on the map?

Nobody said you have to be exact.....down to address & street.....

What is the reluctance for people to not do this.....???

The only reason I promote it.... is it may give someone the opportunity to ride with someone, or have someone nearby that may be able to help you work on your bike.....etc....etc.....carb clinics......

Much like a visit with the monk at the top of the mountain, some things have to be earned.

Paranoia...ha! It's not that five... for me it's what Polock said in another thread...something like,"we know of each other through this forum, which is great, but we don't know each other in person." Sounds non-sociable but not that either. As you know it takes time to develop personal friendships. Meeting and hanging out with a group of members (that i probably wouldn't ever see again) over a weekend at a carb clinic...cool. Trying to be nice to a member that wants a friendship that i ain't with...no thanks.

Who's paranoid ........ Who paranoid? Did you hear that, someone is outside, Oh, just the trash collector. Wait, wait, there's a dog barking, oh just barking at cat. Jeeze will someone close the curtains ..... quickly!

As a psychologist friend elaborated ....... you're not ok, I'm not ok, NOBODY IS OK. I got an XJ that's running! EEEHA, but looking for the next shoe to drop!

This reminded me that I have to update my address. I moved a couple of weeks ago. I might wanna let the bank know too. They probably want money or something...
As for a reason not to post addresses, unfortunately, members aren't the only ones visiting here. If you click "Members Online Now", you get a list of who's here. Currently, there are 12 members, 49 guests, and here's the spooky one: 25 robots. One of the robots from Bing is currently viewing member profile "spaceapex" while another is viewing member profile "Steve_Fasano". If you put stuff up here, you put it OUT THERE! ROBOTS ARE WATCHING US!

I have my marker on the map, but i put it in the middle of the nearest intersection for paranoia's sake. Kind of like when you give directions to somebody, but you don't really want them to find you. If you're trying to find me, I am not working the corner of Leonard St and Shirley St.
As for threads going sideways, that seems to be the norm nowadays... My silly wisecracks must be at least partly responsible... Ritalin and Aderol for matti? Focusin, maybe?

^^^ same thing, marked where Milwaukee County Stadium is (oops they call it Miller Park now). It is close to where I live, I can meet you there in under 10 minutes.

I think the written (typed) word is difficult to interpret other than a literal sense, thus tonal inflection and other 'personality' traits are lost in translation. Motorcycle repair instructions are generally rather clear and concise. Matti, I DO get you and your humor and actually mentioned to SWMBO last night that I would really like to meet you in person.

However as dmlyster pointed out, none of us is OK, so I think when we finally relocate to the farm I might be even more vague with my location . . . .

P.S. I try not to go off topic with replies . . . . Unless it is in the Hang Out Lounge, then anything is fair game!

It's a matter of personal taste. You and I touched on this before briefly. If you don't have a problem with it, fine -- some of us do. Witness Len's reaction when I suggested a pilgrimage to the XJ4Ever base of operations...

I was extremely exact with my location, then I remembered you could zoom in, switch to earth view and see my house.. So I moved the marker down the road a few miles.
