How do I know what carbs/engine I have?

    Do I have a YICS? are there any other type of engine besides YICS? if so how can I tell which type I have? also I looked at my carbs today and they didnt say a name, how can I tell if they are hitatchi or the other one?

    82 650's could have YICS - AFAIK only the 80 & 81'sdidn't have it.

    YICS is a small channel in the cylinder head that balances the intake flow between the cylinders.

    All air-cooled XJ's have the Hitachi carbs - only the liquid-cooled X's got the Mikuni's.

    And the Turbo boys too! Give us the first 5 digits on the engine serial tag and we'll look it up for you. But I agree it is most likely non-YICS. You can also look at the point covers and see if YICS is engraved into them.
