    Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to this site and to working on my bike. I'm currently looking to clean up and hide my wiring. I see a lot of dudes rocking a totally open space under the seat and I'm pretty jealous. So, I did some research and a lot of people are talking about running a capacitor vs a battery. What does that mean and can I do it? I'm looking to be super minimalist with this bike. (any help switching to kickstart would be rad) Like I said, I'm working on my motorcycle literacy and jargon so I apologize if I sound like a dumbass.

A capacitor can take the place of the battery on a kickstart bike. You do not have a kickstart bike. You cannot use a capacitor in the place of your battery. You cannot convert an XJ to kickstart without spending serious amounts of money (like brand-new-motorcycle money).
I am assuming that you have some model of XJ, but can't really tell since you haven't told us what you have.

A LiPo battery will save more weight than using a capacitor will, but they cost a fair bit and are not so great in cold weather.

if you have a seca you can put a sealed battery under the seat in the storage compartment i saw a utube video on it 15 seconds into video

if you have a maxim it might fit in the chain box

Oh sorry I meant to at the end of the post. I have a 82 maxim xj400. Damn, I figured that'd be the case. Any suggestions on the subject of clearing out that triangle under the seat? I'm planning on running headlight, taillight, speedo, and ignition. Any help would be rad.

Open space is usually because of a missing airbox----cuz someone went to pods. Oh great, here we go with the pods thing again.

I went to airpods, and I'll tell you don't do it. If things go wrong in the future, you'll have a totally custom setup to troubleshoot instead of a stock configuration that you can find all kinds of documentation and parts for.
