Now that I'm on the reassembly stage, some of my hardware is rusty etc. and really detracts from the new paint and power coating and I think I will replace some. What are you guys doing for replacement nuts/bolts etc? Lowes/HD is ridiculous on prices.

    Fastenal.

They have all kinds of metric fasteners in stainless, and usually in stock.

I have purchased hardware lot from ebay, 30$ it had a 26 dollar engine mount bolt and nut I needed. came nuts bolts and switches ect well worth the money. all sorts of extras sidestand switch both brake switches rubber straps for my seat, reflectors with screws. nice clean plating on most of the bolts.
look for the free shipping and make an offer lots
otherwise I pay the 80cents to 1.50 for screws at local hardware store.

Looks like mcmaster-carr has a bunch too. I've looked at the lots online but really only need a few bolts. I'll have a better idea what I need as I get more of the bike together.

Ace Hardware typically has a better variety of stainless metric stuff than HD or Lowes. Prices are going to suck but they look a hell of a lot better.

I have stainless bolts/screws on my car's license plate from Ace, front and rear. They look as nice now as they did the day I put them on, and you know the awful winter we just had.

Cool, I'll check out some local hardware stores. Used to be a couple by work but have long closed up.

Need to clean up threads from powder and start reassembling. Been working in garage every night til 12 after kids go to bed. Hopefully wrap this thing up before snow flies.

if you're going down the stainless route, then make sure you lubricate every bolt , nut and threaded hole with copper or anti seize grease. stainless nuts and bolts have a habit of picking metal up from each other, and jamming hard against each other, making them impossible to remove.
I changed all of the bolts on my bike ,including all the engine casing ones, they look a lot better than the steel ones.

But keep the copper anti-seize away from any aluminum. They like each other a lot, and the aluminum tends to embrittle when they do the nasty.

The engine hardware is all good, nothing was molested or stripped on the covers. It's mainly the triple clamp and some frame hardware.

    Good to know!

Uh... wait (minor thread-jack)... should I be worried about the copper spray-gasket I used on my clutch cover?

No. The embrittlement risk is minor, but manefests itself in threaded fasteners because of the torque and relatively small amount of material that holds the fastener in place.
