According to the parts catalog post, I should be able to use a 650Maxim or 750 Seca/Maxim tank in place of my dented up 650Seca tank, correct? I just can't seem to find another 650 Seca tank anymore. :(

    From the other post:
(NOTE on tank interchange: all XJ650 (except Turbo) and 1981-83 XJ750 (except XJ750RL) tanks will swap between those models and fit, but may experience some minor interference issues with the front of the seat/seat pans. Many XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim owners like to upgrade to the larger XJ750 Maxim tanks, and that is basically a bolt-on swap.)

    What's wrong with your tank?

I have two tanks now that have big dents on the left side. Not easy ones to pull out or I'd go that route.

Chances are that any tank someone has left is probably rusty, my extra one included, too. Pull the dents, use one and sell the other.

Post up a pic and one of us might be able to give you a plan for getting the dents out (or out enough that minor body work will make it look good).

First time from me. It was a used tank when I bought it a while back. The original tank has a dent almost exactly like that one. Don't have a picture available currently. Think it could be pulled out or should I opt for another tank, a 650/750 Maxim tank possibly?

If you want to look at the lighter side of dent pulling check out Ichiban Moto on youtube - this guy is hysterical. But do check out some of the serious videos on dent pulling on youtube.

Seriously? He called that tiny tank a Goldwing tank? Also, where do you find metric vice-grips? Hilarious.

Ichiban is a hoot. He does that very much on purpose.

Betcha a Goldwing has more oil than that tank can hold.

Whatever you do, don't try to blow out the dent by filling the tank with compressed air.
A friend tried that, and ended up with what he described as, "an amusingly-shaped potato". Unless you actually want a spud tank, of course.

The 650 Seca tanks are pretty rare (in the USA - only here 1 year) so I'd say to take it to a real good body shop. They will likely cut off the bottom, re-shape the tank and re-weld the bottom back on. Not cheap, but the results will be stellar, and that bike/tank look so good stock.
