Will my stator short???

    I have a 1985 Yamaha Maxim Xj700, I'm planning on installing a phone charger/ usb. this being a older bike Will it fry my stator?

    It will not. You won't be drawing more than 2 amps, and the charging system can handle that.

    So no damage whatsoever? You don't think I need to put in a fuse holder with a 5 amp or lower fuse, or is that even feasible?

    if you hook it directly to your battery put a fuse on it because that is good practice.
    you could save yourself some wattage if you replace your tail and lic plate lights with led bulbs,you could also replace your instrument cluster bulbs as well, these bulbs are always on .

    You should always put a fuse into any circuit. The fuse prevents a fire from occurring when there is a dead short.

    If you have a battery charger pig tail installed couldn't you just plug into that? Mine already has a fuse and that's how I plan to plug in a gps if I ever decide to take a long trip on my XJ700,
