Not really sure where I am going with this just yet but...
I started to tear into my xj1100 last night and found that I am short one good starter solenoid.
Bypassed it and got the motor to turn over and checked the old magic box for sparks.
Attempted to get my universal harbor freight compression tester line threaded in but I didn't have any luck, which is strange as the threads are the same but I think it is bottoming out on the lip of the line.

But all is well, got to see how well the xs1100 triple tree and standard tank fit.

Starter solenoid it repairable if you don't have a spare. Just did one last night so I have a spare
Desolder the small wires and it comes apart for cleaning and dressing the contacts.

    That's brilliant!

Was just getting ready to buy one as they all seem very similar throughout the maxim model line.

I am not sure why but I am liking this one alot!

Finally got an evening to spend on the carbs.
Took two banks to make one sort of deal after inspection and cleaning.

115 mains, stock pilots "im guessing as they appear to have never been removed", with 112.5 pilot air

Its amazing what a little harbor freight jewelry cleaner "ultrasonic" and a brass wire wheel will do.

You could order it online here,

    http://www.harborfreight.com/25-liter-ultrasonic-cleaner-95563.html

Works great with the carb dip cleaners, pinesol or other concentrated homebrews like acetone and purple power.

Careful as adding cleaners with low flash points as the ultrasonic cleaner will lower the flash point even further.
Don't burn your garage and or house down.

    ;)

Got it fire up over the weekend!
I about wet myself when the roar came out of the non muffled 4-1 header.
This was after it blew out a mouse nest of course.

I plug my pipes for that very reason. Critters love exhaust pipes for some reason.

if you put those carbs in the machine with carb dip, that's bad. there's seals on the throttle shafts that don't like carb dip.
maybe you didn't kill them but you didn't do them any good. if you start having strange carb problems, this could be it.

These guys are right, the heavy cleaners will eat the orings and even nitrile based seals. I checked the carbs diagram first and decided to use just pinesol, water and compressed air. But the little cleaner can clean most parts other than just carbs.

Well I finally got back around to wrenching on this project. Finished up swapping out the suspension for the non-air assisted version from a 78 xs1100.
Surprisingly the front brakes mounted up well minus one spacer, but the front calipers are seized and I am preparing to apply the grease method to free the pistons.
Got the missing parts on my xs1100 tank, the rear brake installed and bled "I eliminated the odd front and rear braking by just tapping off that feed line that went to the front", cut the front fender "which still needs help" and started playing around with this old interceptor seat I had laying around. Still haven't made up my mind about cutting the rear frame off or not. What do you guys think? Heading in a good direction?

They are xj1100 carbs from what I can tell.

I confused the xs1100 diagram with the xj.
