I bought this bike roughly a month ago, took it down to frame for paint.

Put it back together, and it ran terribly. I couldn't put it in gear without it bogging.

Aaaaaaaand then it hit me; hit me as in the bike fell over and the 4th cylinder header touched my arm - cold as could be!

New plugs were fouled, IG coils secondary failed the test. Cylinder 2 & 4 weren't getting any spark.

I checked eBay to see what they were going for, unfortunately I thought I had two bad coils.

Saw a post "82 650 Maxim 2 & 3 cylinder ignition coils", I thought to myself, is this guy wrong, or am I?!

Looked at the pictures, and saw each plug boot had a small 1/2/3/4 sticker by the boot.
Sure enough one of mine had 2 & 3! I had them hooked up Left side to 1/2 and Right to 3/4!

Bike runs good, but has air pods on the carbs. Runs real rich I believe. Plugs were carbon covered within a few minutes, and it shoots coal from where I wish I had two mufflers! ;)

Whoever runs pods, what are your mixture screw settings?!

    Thanks!

ONe coil is supposed to fire cylinders #1 and #4 and the other coil takes care of cylinders #2 and #3, that is right.
