    that might work on the 550 mikunis but the hitachi carbs have thinner rectangular posts. I don't think there's enough metal to thread into for a post that's big enough to accept the top hole for the pin.
    i did this once, just to see if i could. making the dovetail cutter was the easy part.

    Personally, my preferred way of repairing a broken float tower is simple:

    I get a replacement carb body.
