I want to play with this new iMac Computer that Mrs. Massey bought me.

If you have AIM Video Conference capability ... I'll be Logged-on to AIM from
    9:00PM Eastern - 'til - 11:00PM (or so).

If there's something you like to talk about ... I'll be delighted to chat with you and host this inaugural trial-balloon for Q's and A's or just to say "Hi" and play with the capability.

My AIM Link should work ... (I really don't know) ... but if you need to enter a Screen name ... it's:

    rickcomatic@aol.com ... (or maybe -- rickcomatic@aim.com) ... I dunno ... I'll just be very happy if it works.

    Hope to hook-up later ...
    "See" you then.

    Rick Massey

I use MSN but have never video conferenced. I'll have to start an account with AOL to see if I can do it too. It would be fun to get a video conference thing going and worth looking into and trying.

Just in case there's any West Coaster's who want to try the Video Conference.

So far ... it hasn't worked!

I can't get the drivers for this stupid camera to load correctly! Thanks a lot Fry's! I can't find my other camera, guess the wife hid it again (she does that for some strange reason).

We should look into a common chat room type area. Like along the lines of IRC / AIM / etc. I know the forum has it's advantages, but just hear me out.

Firstly, It seems like a lot of the questions that get asked here are repeats of questions that have been answered here before. Now, undoubtedly these questions are being asked by new users, usually ones that think that just blindly posting without searching first. Maybe a chat room will provide those impatient XJ owners to get the easy answers they're looking for a little quicker, and without having to figure it out all on their own. It can be a safe place to ask "dumb" questions without getting flamed, or ignored.

Secondly, there are alot of us that cruise these forums regularly looking for something to offer our opinions / advise on. A chat of some sort would allow us something to do without clogging up the forums with fluff just trying to pass the time.

I think Rick's onto a good thing. Personally I think the video portion is a little overboard as it takes a lot of extra bandwidth, and I'm not exactly comfortable with other people watching me without me knowing. I do think that some sort of "live chat" feature would be advantageous to our site.

    I'm done rambling now.

An IRC channel would be absolutely great... it's nice to have some interactivity and conversations tend to flow a little better there. Not to replace the board, but to supplement it.

If we're looking for a home, I'd be more than happy to run a server, or we can use one of the existing networks.

    I'll throw out:

    Server: irc.distributed.net
    Channel: #xj

Most all-in-one messenger clients today come with IRC capability, or you can get mIRC if you're on Windows at http://mirc.com/get.html.

Hope to see you XJers there!

If we are gonna do an irc channel, let's do it on a big network, like efnet, therefore no matter where we are in the world we can chat w/each other on a fairly close server. I am a regular on efnet, and have an eggdrop bot I can setup to help run the channel.

Sure, I'm fine with EFnet, though that's not the most reliable network out there :) I already have a few channels there.

Do you want to get #xj or #xjbikes created and populated with the bot?

I'm at a loss with the Computer stuff.

Do I need someone to load a program on here in order to get involved? All I have at the moment is AIM and Bonjour.

mirc is almost plug and play now a days, though it requires some setup to make it happen. If you want to use this stand alone program to connect, I can setup a picture tutorial as to how to set it up and connect to IRC with it. Depends on the responses I get for it. Let me know.... Lefty and I control the channel so that lamers and losers need not apply and whathaveyou.

Good to see that theres some people who know what IRC is out there :)

If you're looking for a good platform to do a videoconference/demonstrations/how-to clinics/etc, I suggest Paltalk (http://www.paltalk.com). Up to 200 people can be in a room simultaneously, and anyone can put up their cam, plus sound (one mic at a time of course). And of course the text chat.

The basic service is free, and allows you to broadcast video, but you can only watch 10 second samples of anyone's cam at a time. If you want to watch video you have to pay $60 for the year (only $5 a month). If you want, I'll post a link for anyone interested to get a free 7 day trial. I've been a member for 2 years and I love it.. There's a room for basically any interest, plus you can make your own room for free.

I have a room on there called the Opie and Anthony Fan Room (Category Adult Conversation). If you want to pop in and see how things sorta work, feel free. (We talk about whatever/whenever, we're just all fans of the Opie and Anthony Show. There is never a set topic) Just be warned, it can be brutal at times, and noobs tend to catch hell :) If anyone questions you about being a fan, tell them you know me from another board and they'll back off. If anyone wants to set up a room on there, get online and send me a PM on there and I'll walk you through setting it up.

The only problem: There is no Mac version yet, so if you have a Mac you have to load Windows into Parallels or Boot Camp and run it from there.

I just want to be able to hook-up my Video & Sound capability and be able to "Talk" with a Member to discuss any Bike stuff or just shoot the bull.

It was one of the "Fun Things" that came bundled on the new MAC.
