finally got around to checking my valve clearances. 3 of the intakes are way too tight. Under 0.05mm. One of the exhausts is too tight. Under 0.10mm but over 0.05mm. Am I asking for trouble riding the bike like this while I wait for shims? Should I just leave it open and wait for the right shims?

I would say wait for shims, that's quite tight , valve damage could occur, when the engine is hot the clearences will likely be tighter yet

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted to squeeze out a few more rides before the seasons over. Haha. I'll be waiting for shims. Thanks guys.

It hasn't been that tight over a night, think you can go for a few more rides whitout any trouble.....

No he can't. Once the valves are tight they begin to enter the range where the valves will burn and become junk. Continuing to ride a machine where any of the exhaust valve clearances can't be measured is asking for a whole lot of expensive trouble.

I see what you mean, i agree it's not good but if he's been riding it until now then he should be able to go some more miles, that's just my opinion.... I can be wrong....

I've parked it for now. New shims should be here in a few days. Better safe than sorry.
