First post here but not a stranger to forums (fora?) like this.

So I've had this bike since... forever. Been all over the midwest US with it.
My wife & I had our first kid 8 years ago & it's been covered in the garage for...8 years.

I got the bug in me to get it roadworthy & noted that the rear monoshock damper was deteriorated.

After (unsuccessfully) looking around for an OEM replacement, NOS... something. I am empty handed.

Anybody have an idea of what kind of shock I could put in it's place?

    Thanks,

    That's kinda tough.

OEM isn't available, and it's a relatively uncommon bike.

Usual suspects for aftermarket are Hagon and Penske.

Hagon lists a shock for the FJ600 (under XJ600), part number M62082. They are around $400, I believe.

Penske doesn't have model listings that I know of, you have to measure the original and talk to them to see if they can come up with something that will fit. They are more expensive than Hagon, usually.

Progressive Suspension also makes monoshocks, but, as with Penske, you would have to do some work to match up the mounts. They should be cheaper than Penske, though.

YSS will also build a shock to suit.

    Thanks Fellas!
As you said, this seems to be a rare bike Stateside. I've seen all kinds of parts/bikes in the Netherlands, Germany & Australia.

I saw a set of rebuilt carbs (BS32) from a scrapper in the Netherlands and I very nearly dropped the $/Euros to get them shipped here to the US - just to have a spare set, you know?

I have a spare set, sorta. I broke a drill bit off in a mixture screw... I got a scrap set of carbs I'm rebuilding right now. Messed up screws galore...

So, my FJ600 is laid up for now.
