I removed the switch from the handlebar to inspect and possibly have a look at the contacts etc. There was a loose small metal piece inside when I removed the inner plastic shield.

Is there a pictorial guide to rejuvenating these switches? The thumb slider will not slide when I re-assemble.

Thank you for the links. The switch in the XJ1100 is different than the smaller bikes. The manual cancel lever slides down toward the road where the XJ650 manual cancel slides in toward the handlebar. I will post some pictures later when I get the phone plugged in. I disassembled and re-assembled the switch.

The problem seems to be with either the stock flasher itself or the one wire that a 2-position relay does not use in the stock harness.

The signals now work manually with manual cancel. When I plug in a stock flasher, blinkers do not work. Same relay socket that is behind the right side cover. I will try adding an additional relay when I get my hands on one. I will also open up the stock flasher relay to see what is what inside.

    Thanks everyone!

Switch is back together. It a bit difficult to move the selector. I will be ordering switch cleaner and lube from Len.

The good news is that the blinkers are now blinking with an OEM flasher relay from the XJ650. Initially the OEM flasher relay did not work. I removed the relay, removed the cover, and went at the contacts with a Dremel and rotary wire brush. I removed every bit of brass corrosion that I could get to. I inspected the capacitor and there is no bloat of sign of capacitor stress. Put the relay back together and installed. Finally the blinkers now work. Tomorrow will be a road test to see if the self-canceller works.

    Cheers!
