Two questions for those that have 1981-3 XJ550 or similar...
    1. In your experience, what is the exact brand of the best cold start battery I can buy? Anecdotal data welcome
    2. Is it possible to rebuild a starter solenoid or should I get a new one?

    XJ4ever!

iit is an EXCIDE brand says to charge with 500m amp charger or a 2 amp charger with the auto charge feature.
most parts stores will charge it for you.
mine was a kit where you add the acid your self, good instructions sheet.

Yeah, you're correct I was at autozone today and the counter guy said they sell acid by the pint. Unfortunately here in Santa Fe all
the auto parts stores make you put in your own acid and the bike shops charge about double for batteries ready to go.

Try batterystuff.com. It comes in a couple of days, all charged and ready to install, and very reasonable.

I buy mine at local Campbells Supply farm and home store. Dont remember brand. I have to add acid and charge. So far current one lasted 3 seasons. Rapid starts in all attempts. Have started down to 40 degrees farenheit.
