I found a 85 700 Maxim locally for sale looks like a clean bike with 16k miles owner said it has developed a slap inside he believes that it's a wrist pin or piston what's the general consensus on the bike value he is looking for a offer.I don't know much about the 700s so any input would be helpful. Thanks again,
    Butch.

price out the parts you will need before buying.
our supporting vendor www.xj4ever.com also a link above and to the right.

or you could use this link for the prices
    www.yamahapartsnation.com

    http://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/500426a8f8700209bc788691/crankshaft-piston
piston not available there nor is the connecting rod
if chacal doesnot have them it will be a used parts from ebay

if you cant get parts it is a problem

low ball him tell him its just a parts bike.
if its the piston but it all depends on how much money and time you want to put into it to fix it

The slap is may just be a broken alternator chain guide that's allowing the chain to slap against the case, but don't tell the seller that. ;)

Offered him a 100.00 and that was declined think maybe he has some emotional attachment so I asked him what's he wants and waiting to hear from him it's a nice bike just a shot motor. I bought a Xs650 last summer for 150.00 with a rod bearing out found a hardtail frame with front end and wheels with a good motor paid 300.00 sold everything but the motor for 350.00 stuck the motor in and ran great.Maybe Lady Luck will be with me again if I can buy the 700 thanks for the info.

When I go looking I carry along a business card. I write my offer on the back before I leave. About half the time I get a callback asking if my offer is still good.

I would say that model running well, needing minor TLC (carb clean, tire), goes for around $1000-$1200 or less.
    Mint shape closer to $2000.
    Engine issues; scrap to $300
