Ditto on that, My last ride for the seca 2 weeks ago, a truck pulled out in front of me. I got stopped about 10 feet from his bed side. I put the seca in the basement for winter. The maxim I rode last week and looked in the mirror, A really stupid women about 4 teet from my back tire at 50 mph. That scared the crap out of me, Brainless idiots!

Oh, I like the pennies and washer idea! The thing about this, there was nobody behind me for about 5 miles. It's a 2 lane road, speed limit 45. I was going down hill on a short strait stretch and heard a different noise. That is when I looked in the mirror and she was there! I mean all car in the mirror! I had no place to go, ditch on my side and trees on the other. She road like that for about a half mile and turned off on another road. It took me along time to cool off... If I chewed tobacco that would have been a good time for a big spit!!

loosely put bikes in two categories, sport bike and cruiser. How can you tell them apart going down the road?
Simple, cruisers have cars behind them, sport bikes have cars in front of them :)

I found out in the last several months that having an atv in the bed of our F150 (w/toolbox - gate down front tires of atv touching gate) and said truck loaded with firewood AND a 5x9 trailer filled with wood must be some type of unwritten code for "get right on my arse and stay with me for 12 miles". WTF?

People are stupid, and yet they are making cars 'smarter' so that people can get even stupidier. . . .

The new accident avoidance systems prevent asshats from riding your tail. Automatic braking begins when the safe stopping-distance threshold has been breached :)

OH. Today I am thankful for good-quality, but inexpensive dead centers for my lathe being listed on E-bay. I've been looking for a set I can afford for almost a year. Scored a pair for $25 to-my-door. Yipee!!

I took it off myself, but I needed a new one. Bounced my head off the pavement a coupla times.

Some guy tried to drive a full size van up my butt. It didn't fit. Didn't fit into my buddy's butt either. Dumb bastard hit us both.

What really gets their attention, (and I am pretty good at this) is clearing throat for some 'loogie' material, turn head in proper direction, tilted up a little, and let her fly. 7 or 8 times out of ten I can hit their windshield (you can tell you scored when they turn their wipers on :)) that almost always gets their attention.

While we're on the subject, what's up with people just pulling out right in front of you like you're not even there? I get especially pissed when I KNOW they see me. When you make eye contact, you've been seen.

Never ever assume that. Had that happen a few times last year, one time was about as close as I've ever come to laying a bike down.

+ 1000 And even when you are seen you can't assume that the other person is going to react rationally.
There is a great deal of new brain research that is leading to the conclusion that something the size of a motorcycle sometimes really is invisible to the observer in terms of being cognitively aware of the motorcycle's presence.

It's like they see you but they don't see you. I've often wondered why that is.
It's almost as if motorcycles are ignored by drivers, perhaps because of the size difference. I would be interested to see any research done on the subject.

Well either way, everyone stay safe out there this year!

Last summer I had the same woman cut me off 3 times on different days. I was east bound she was west bound and she took a left cutting the turn so badly she drove over the side walk just to cut me off. had to lock up to keep from broadsiding her.
brain dead or poor judgement on distance based on the size of bikes. 20 mph zone .helmet is ruby red jacket bright blue.

+1. Driver Complacency. Drivers don't normally look for a motorcycle unless they hear it first. Drivers look for cars and even when they see a motorcycle their brain doesn't register the same info as if it were a car until after they've cut off the motorcycle.

    That video clip was brilliant.

Made me realize that my hi-vis 'construction worker' vest actually breaks up my profile into smaller pieces. Doh!

Great video, K-moe. This is the one area of riding that concerns me the most. I've ridden less than a full year, and understand my own limitations fairly well. However, I realize I have no control of the cars around me. I usually stare at the tires of cars getting ready to pull out into my lane, with the intent of hitting the brakes and horn if I see movement. I'd like to make it to 50, which is only a couple years away.
