Hi everyone, I have been lurking for a few days and working my way through the "Information Overload" thread. I figured it was time that I introduce myself and post a couple pictures of my new winter project. I picked her up on Friday and cleaned out a nice spot in the shed for her. She's a 1982 750 Seca with 7,885 original miles. I probably should have asked before I bought her, but how much do yall think I should have given for her? I'm sure the carbs are filthy seeings as how the petcock failed. She won't start, but does turn over very well.

    Hi tony,
I'm new to this group too. I recently purchased an 81 550 seca and have been collecting data from forums and such. I don't have an answer for you as to how much. I just wanted to say hi and welcome.

Welcome aboard. The standard is $1 per cc for a runner in decent shape. You've joined a forum that know these bikes so between $500 - $750 is my guess. Looks like a stuck float at carb #1.

I dunno. Its got an aftermarket fairing and some custom paint, including some nice color on the rims and head, plus tasteful stripes. I'm guessing $850-1100. But I'm a sucker for these bikes.

Oh yeah, is that oil/gas leaking from carb 1? That could be a symptom of the stuck float mentioned above. If oil is coming from the carb, chances are gas is in the crankcase too, better fix it and change the oil before turning over the mill.

It's definitely a stuck float. When I had the bike in the bed of the truck on the side stand it was dripping somewhere just in front and to the left of the rear tire. It looked liked oil, but smell like straight gas. Tomorrow I'll finally get to work on her a little while.

Welcome to the club - As far as $$ is concerned it really depends a lot on your local market for these and other such bike from my experience.

It does not have an aftermarket fairing. It has the optional Yamaha fairing which can fetch quite a nice price. You did OK at $1000.

Something for consideration (and this is admittedly a stupid point). The Seca 750 was the first 750cc machine to perform like a 1000cc machine; 11.99 second 1/4 mile in stock trim. A record that was held for nearly two months!

I know it's not but it kinda looks like StreetHawk with that fairing!

No, that's yamaha opt. Fairing. The 750 Seca could get a number of fronts....
Full Seca fairing w/ lowers, opt. Sport fairing which you have, etc.....

Cool! They must be "fairly" uncommon. I don't see them very often. It really hides the Atari nicely, and the square headlight makes sense... might need one of those! Are they attached to frame or forks? Do they cause headshake?

The sport fairing attaches to the forks via a separate subframe. The touring fairing and lowers attach via a frame mounted subframe. Both would have a steering damper fitted because of the tiny bit of head shake that you'd get when surmounting the edges of an uneven surface (think expansion joints, or raised striping). I have yet to repair and mount mine so I'm only going by period reviews of the bike with the fairing.

I knew I didn't get a "great" deal at $1000, but am happy with my purchase. When I went to buy it, it was pretty obvious the guy really needed the money and he was asking $1500. So I only took $1000 with me because I knew that is the highest I was willing to go. I also know myself well enough that if I had more on me, I possibly would have spent it. I'm a horrible negotiator when it comes to something I really want. Now if I can stop working overtime every weekend I could actually get to work on her :(. Since the paint is not original, I'm thinking of a dark grey with a light metallic flake and red accents. Thoughts?

I'm thinking that the paintwork is already done for you.

Well I'm already stripping her down to get the frame powder coated, and honestly the paint looks a lot better in pictures than it does up close.
