After thorough work on Ol' June, I got her purring. Only two little issues left, but those can wait. I got oil weeping from the valve cover gasket and the breather I put on my crankcase.

    What I did:
    Rejetted to 134s I believe
    Changed diaphragm needle height
Check and set valves to around .004-.005
    Double checked all electrical

    Next up:
    New Valve cover gasket
    New Brake and Choke levers
    New clutch cable
    Fork seal

    Possible:
    Digital speedo/tacho

I'll post a video when I get the chance.

    YAY on the running.

If you have a YICS engine don't forget to get new valve cover rubber doughnuts; that's what holds the valvecover tight.
The fix for the breather is to run a length of suitable hose up along the frame, and mount the breather as high as you can get it. That will allow the oil mist to drop back into the crankcase with a minimum of it reaching the filter.

Your valve clearances are waaay off.
    The correct clearances are:

    Intake: .11-.15mm

    Exhaust: .16-.20mm

Anything outside of these specific measurements is OUT OF SPEC

The valve specs are in thousandths. Sorry for the miscommunication.

    .004 inch = .11 mm
    .005 inch = .15-.16mm

0.005" makes for tight exhaust valves. No bueno.
0.004" makes for intake valves that could end up being be too tight well before the next inspection interval. Still no Bueno.

Anybody know what size the breather hose would be from the crankcase? Len doesn't have any breather hoses for the 550. I think I'll just use a fuel line.

So one thing fixed and another gets busted am I right? I now have a front flat tire. It doesn't look as if there is a puncture, just that it got unsealed. Is there a quick fix for this?

Welcome to the wonderful world of.....well of everything.

Air it up and use a spray bottle of soapy water to find where the leak is. Spray the tread, the sidewalls, and along the rim. If you see bubbles being blown that will tell you where the leak is, and then we can advise on what needs to be done to fix it (anything from reseating the bead, to a plug, to a new tire depending on where the problem is). Be sure to spray around the valve stem too.

The tire looks fine. I just need to reseat the bead. How do I go about doing that?

and old trick for the beading! Put a ratchet strap around the tyre on the rim and tighten. Attach the airhose and put air into it. The compressed tyre will normally resit again. On alloys its a good idea to clean the contact pint on the rim (both sides) as corrosion can cause the opening! Good Luck!

If you have a rubber-tipped air nozzle, use it. Remove the air valve from the stem, use the strap like mentioned above, and fill that tire fast. The Schroeder valve limits the flow, so removing it lets the tire fill faster than it can leak out past the bead. If it won't seat at home, take it to a shop. That might charge a few dollars, but it will be less than having a new tire mounted.

I have the crank case breather tube. You would be wise to buy a new valve cover gasket and donuts rather than installed a different used one.... Same for fork seals. PM'd that to you, too----
