thats how it works. light is supposed to come on when starting it is a float type device.
How is the oil level when you look at it in the sight glass, with bike on center stand?
should be about mid way to all most the top line you want a bubble that way if your gas leaks into the oil you can tell there is a problem because the bubble will be gone.
when oil is visable in sight glass you can add oil slowley 1 oz at a time to bring it up to the level you like.
if oil is cold it will be slow to show in sight glass

Sometimes the float gets gummed up with sludge after years of incomplete oil changes. If the light does not extinguish as soon as the engine is started then it may be sticky. An easy fix is to run seafoam in the oil clear out the sludge and free up the float. The harder fix is to pull the exhaust so you can pull the float and clean it directly.

^^^^ what he said -- seafoam in the oil fixed that issue for me. I put it in my gas too. The stuff is so awesome I drink a double-seafoam and coke each night too to clean myself out.

If you can get straight Naptha, just use it. The Naptha does most of the work. I'd reccomend using around 10cc of Naptha per 1,000 cc of engine oil since Seafoam is around 3/4 Pale Oil and 1/4 Naptha (with a small amount of Isopropanol and some other stuff that's top secret ( along with oil of wintergreen for the smell)).

Your information page is blank so I could not tell what type of bike your running but I have found that my 82' XJ650 has a sticky start button that will release from the starter position but stay in just enough to make the oil light stay/come on during running. After blasting a little WD-40 on it the button never stuck again. Hope it's this simple for you, best of luck.

Easiest source of naptha on the High St is cigarette lighter fuel - at least, it used to be that in tins of Ronson, etc. The downward spiral of the number of smokers has rendered the stuff in shorter supply than it was, and who knows what the EU has dictated as to its use anyway.

I dunno if youseguyz do much camping out over there, but naphtha is used as a fuel for some types of camp stoves. Coleman brand stoves used it before propane took over.
