I've been considering getting a honda goldwing, probably a mid 90's model, for those long rides. Anyone out there have experience with these things? In the long run, are they worth dropping a few grand on? Also how difficult is the upkeep on them?

    Good Morning,
The Wings are solid machines but always seemed pricey. Two thing to look out for are the alternator and the timing belt. Take a look at the Kawasaki Voyager of that generation. Good solid machine and a better price point. I had on for a while many years ago and it never let me down.

The alternator issue was primarily with the earlier ones, as I recall, and much of that was because people would overload the system with all kinds of extra lights, etc...... Rather than stay within the limitations of the original system. I put a higher power stator in mine, and it should have no problem keeping up with anything I throw at it, but i am going to keep it naked from here on out. It is a 1978 gl1000
