The headlight on my 81 XJ650 has all of a sudden died on me. Im left with no high beam or low beam at all, as well as no backlight on the tach/speedo.

So far ive checked all the fuses, wiring,bulb--that stuff is all fine. Battery is fully charged at 12.4 volts and alternator is putting out a consistent 13.8 volts.

Just wondering what else to look in to, everything seems to point to the headlight relay, but unfortunetly i don't have the manual to see what the different wires going to it are for so i can't really diagnose it...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The fuse can be perfectly good.

The circuit can be perfectly bad.

Jumper the lighting circuit across that "Good" fuse. If the power comes back on ... replace the stock fuse panel.

The Fuse Panel is the #-1 cause of electrical failures with Alternataor Brushes running a close second.

    Replace the Panel
    Check the Brushes

We should just Number these things like they have for different selections at McDonalds.

    Do a - 1
    Check - 2
