Hoping someone would post a few pictures. Working on rebuilding my Seca. All of the fuel tank mounting hardware near the seat was missing when I got it. I have everything but don't quite understand how it goes together. I've looked at several 55o Secas and they just use a simple bolt-plate set up. I have the rubber mount for under the tank, the oval washer, plate, bolt and washer. Figured I would ask before the trial error method. Thanks.

If you have the clip, you also need to have the correct bolt for the clip. This bolt has a groove or shoulder. The regular bolt just holds down the plate and retaining stuff.

I'll check to see if I have a pic handy.

Whatever the case, you need the rear tank rubber mount, the oval rubber ring, the retaining plate, and/or the plate with the two wings, and the bolt( either standard to bolt down, or shouldered/grooved on if you're going to use the clip).

    There ya go...

The clip is simply a " quick release" type of connection, but other than it being a cool thing to see, I never take my tank off so much that I need a " quick release" function. That said, some of my bike have it, some dont...and if I come across the parts I grab 'em...

so I do have the special bolt. is the plate special also? don't get why if the bolt is tightened down the clip is even necessary? the black and white drawing is appreciated but doesn't help me see how it works.

That particular bolt will fit right through the hole. You don't pull the bolt to lift the tank. Pull the clip, lift the tank.

The bolt is just a stud. It does not secure the plate. The plate is secured (or not; mine is missing) by the clip. The clip makes it easy to remove the tank since the tank mount is directly below the tank itself, leaving little room for a wrench or rachet. The 650 Maxim tank has a mount that is to the rear of the tank, and is therefore unobstructed, so the clip isn't needed for that model.

so it is starting to make more sense. truly appreciate the help. so does the bolt essentially bottom out to a point or is it more trial and error how far to tighten it in?

The bolt has a shoulder that bottoms on the mounting platform.
