    Hey all -

I am not sure what they are there for, but how long should these four hoses be? They each lead to nowhere, so I am guessing they are for air balancing? Just want to make sure mine are long/short enough for their intended purpose...

    Thanks!

There are normally four rubber caps on each of those fittings... a hose is connected only when synchronizing the carbs. The length is not important as long as they are sealed off.

I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing kontiki. Just to clarify, the hoses are coming from the side of each carb, not the top of each carb. I know the top of each carb has a port that has a rubber nipple over it sealing it off (actually, three of them are, the fourth is a vent to the petcock). The hoses coming from the side of each carb are what I am referring to. Those should be sealed off??

Those hoses go exactly where you think they go, to no where. They are used to vent the top side of the carbs to the atmosphere like you stated. The ends of mine simply go to under the carbs and just sit there. If you cam them off it will cause the slides in the carbs to be pretty sluggish. Just keep them long enough to go under the carbs to be out of the way.

Thanks samsr - So it'd be okay if I changed those over to clear fuel-rated hose? That's what I'd like to do.

It probably wont cause a problem. Just dont let them colapse in on themselves.

They'd be the fuel-rated ones, so I wouldn't think that'd be an issue. Then again, what the he11 does fuel-rated mean anyways, specifically?

fuel rated means that gasoline (and most common additives) will not dissolve/degrade the hoses. You can find braided clear line as well, which is better IMHO since it's a tad more resistant to collapsing than non-braided.
