The only seat pan that is guaranteed fit an Xj550 Seca is one off of an Xj550 Seca. Year of manufacture doesn't matter. The SX400 was what became the XJ550, but I'm not sure that the seat is a direct fit (though it may be).

    http://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/p/yamaha/4g0-w2472-01-00/double-seat-assembly

title in first ad is "YAMAHA SECA 82-83 xj 600 600 xj seat pan foam"
then the seller says it will fit

    1983 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim
    1982 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim
    1981 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim
    1983 Yamaha XS400 Maxim
    1982 Yamaha XS400 Maxim
ask him to garentee the fit
I would walk away from this ad

My seat is fine. I am actually turning my bike is a "cafe" styled bike. I actually just want a seat pan to use to mold the cafe seat to that I will be making out of fiberglass. and don't want to tear apart my perfectly good seat to get at the pan. I am going to keep all the mounting and frame stock, so I can convert it back to stock if I ever feel the need. Thanks for your help!

Only 550 Seca for fit. Others may look close or even the same, but there's differences. Nice thing is that any year xj550 Seca will fit
