Well, I'm not familiar with the 400 but have you tried to see if your pick-up coils are sending the pulse to the TCI? I've had the pick-up coils burn out on me before. Just a thought. Another thought is have you verified the continuity of the coils? Make sure that the primary windings are 2-3 ohms.

Check your kill switch. I've run into a situation wher a corroded connection on a kill switch prevented spark.

I connected a fully charged battery and a fresh gallon of gas and i ended up burning up that diode i been reading about that in the wiring harness.

now i have to find a new diode , it smoked good for about 10seconds before i disconnected the batter y

is there an after market wiring harness? maybe a product that would completely replace the tci?

No drop in factory harnesses yet, Flea-bay is your best bet for a replacement. Otherwise there are a few folks that offer wire kits. As for the TCI, if you stick with stock trim, the unit will have to remain. It is the brains behind the stock ignition system and it won't work unless everything is there. Fried a diode? You sure your hooked up to the harness correctly? Check your polarity on the battery hookups again, that doesn't seem right.

    You need a TID12-07 Ignitor.

You ought to be able to find it on eBay. Look at the numbers on parts for sale from early Yam ATV's; too.
