I have what seems to be a rattle in the front end, seems like the forks, hitting a bump at slow speed. I recently replaced the fork seals and everything looked fine. I especially checked the bushings and they looked good. The bike has approx 15,000 miles, rides well, and the forks don't leak and have the proper amount of oil in them. Any thoughts?

I noticed the same thing on mg XJ550 Seca. I believe it's the floating brake caliper that rattles around.

Re-visit the alignment of the forks to the each other, to the front wheel and through the triple tree.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the brakes, but I don't think the XJ700 has floating brake calipers.

I know that they are dead even at the top of the triple tree, but other than that I don't know how to check the alignment anywhere else.

Look at your cables etc. make sure it's all routed properly and fastened at correct points. I had a rattle in my front end at slower speeds that drove me nuts, I looked everythign over at the front wheel etc. I was looking in the wrong place, turns out it was the clutch cable adjuster barrel banging on the frame.

Thanks. I'll take a look at that tonight.

I think I found the source of the rattle. It is coming from the throttle grip. There is some play in the grip and it's causing the rattle. If I hold press forward or pull it back it prevents it for rattling. The throttle wire is working well so I'm going to leave well enough alone unless someone out there thinks this is a problem.

I thought it could have been the brake pads loose in the calipers, specially if shims are missing.
